What to Do When You Want to Stay in Bed

GOOD MORNING! It’s time to wake up! I remember when I was in high school and my dad would come into my room to wake me up in the morning. (Yes, I was and still am spoiled for having my parents wake me up in the morning. I’m aware of this.) Anyways, every time he came into my room, I remember how I would turn, pull the covers over my face, and pray to the Lord God above that my dad would walk away so that I could get at least 15 more minutes of sleep.

And get this. I’m a morning person, so I can only imagine how it must be for all you people out there who struggle to get out of bed in the mornings. You probably lay there in bed thinking, How did Monday get here so fast? It was just Friday! I wish it were still the weekend. I don’t want to get out of bed. I don’t want to go to school. I don’t want to go to work. I don’t want to deal with people today. Blah, blah, blah.

But really, it’s time to get up! Something is waiting for you, something extraordinary. Big plans! Great ideas waiting to be thought up. Words to be spoken. Actions to be demonstrated. Today is YOUR day! There’s only one day like it. Why would you make it go to waste? Stop seeing the glass half empty, when really its half-full. Maybe today is the day that you need to take a risk. Or today is the day that you’re waiting to hear back for an internship. Or the day that you’ll finally find the courage to talk to your crush. Or the day that you will talk to your boss about that promotion you’ve been wanting. I mean honestly, the possibilities are endless!

But let’s pause for a minute.. Are you doing too much? Are you too peppy or too optimistic? Should you get a grip and stop saying things that are just way out of reach? Hm, maybe but let’s dig deeper. Is it me or you? Are you doubting how great you are and what you’re able to achieve?

If so, then stop it. You have special skills that people dream of having, and you don’t even know it yet. YOU are one beautiful individual, capable of things that you possibly couldn’t imagine. Claim it. Declare it. Make it happen! You can’t do much laying in bed..

And if that doesn’t help, what about this? All things work together for the good of those that love God (Romans 8:28) or many are the plans in a man’s heart, but it is the Lord’s will that ultimately prevails. (Proverbs 19:21) So you feel like you’re inadequate! Guess what? There’s a fix for that. God’s got you. He knows exactly what’s going to happen today, and He’s already fixed it. He’s already made a detour for you to get back on track. You can do all things through Him who gives you strength (Philippians 4:13). And if you’re struggling to believe it, then cast your cares on Him because He cares for you! (1 Peter 5:7).

So now that I hope I’ve pep-talked you into getting out of bed, what do you have planned for today? Happy Monday!
