It’s interview day on Hanha Hobson, and I am excited to introduce you to Nona! We met in my favorite place, Instagram, and it’s amazing to see how Nona is using her gifts and talents to glorify God. She is an actress and model, and I wanted to ask her a couple of questions about what it means to live for God in the entertainment industry. You will love reading her soul-filled answers, and you will definitely glean some wisdom from her experiences. Enjoy!

1.Tell me about yourself and why you decided to become a model/actress?

I am Nona Simone, 21-years-old born and raised in Brooklyn, New York. I strive to be an independent, hardworking woman. The best thing I love about myself is my passion for God and encouraging others to live out their passions/purpose to be who God has called them to be.

Since I was very young, God put the desire in my heart to express myself through the creative arts. I have been blessed with many talents such as modeling, dancing, and acting.

2. What challenges have you faced by being a Christian in this field? How do you handle roles that might go against your faith and values?

Surprisingly, I haven’t  faced many challenges  yet, but when one comes up, such as feeling burned out, I will simply go back to my WHY.

3. With this being such a competitive field, what do you do to keep yourself encouraged? Do you have any scriptures or devotionals that have helped you?

First things first, I always make sure I drink lots of water, take my daily dose of vitamins, and eat proper nutrition to keep my energy levels high. I love writing all my thoughts, feelings, and emotions down. Journaling helps me stay balanced when life gets overwhelming.

The Bible app helps me with my walk with God and I use daily devotionals for encouragement. The Shine app is another app that I use, and it gives me daily motivational texts. Scripture that I love are:

“I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.” -Philippians 4:13

I am powerful because I am a Child of God and in Him I can do anything if I set my mind to it.

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made.” -Psalms 139:14

I am unique, and what I have to offer to the world is unlike anybody else. I believe in my God given gifts and superpower. I strongly believe not comparing yourself to what everyone else around you is doing is critical when it comes to being who God has called YOU to be. God created you just the way you are, on purpose for a purpose.

“Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you, he will never let the righteous be shaken” -Psalms 55:22

When I get anxiety because of how overwhelming life can be sometimes, I look to my Savior. I rely on the Lord always for guidance and give all my fears/worries to him. Praying helps me get through difficult times.

4. In what ways have you been intentional about living for God in your work? How do you use your platform to be an ambassador for Christ?

I am an ambassador for two Christian apparel brands such as Dope Faith Apparel and God Is Tryna Tell You Something. I model their clothes and write bible based encouraging captions. Through my story, I use the struggles that I go through on a daily basis to motivate others. I use the gifts God has given me to be a blessing to others. In everything I do, I plan to glorify God.

5. Where do you see yourself in 5 years? What do you hope to be doing? Do you have any specific projects coming up?

I hope to be at a place where my soul has so much inner peace that nothing can take away my joy. I wish to be flourishing physically and mentally at a place in my life where Im happy and satisfied with my career prospering leading to financial security. I would also love to be married with at least one kid in my own home.

6. What advice do you have for people especially Christian women who may want to pursue a career in the entertainment industry?

Figure out your purpose and what makes you unique. Trust and believe in yourself. Don’t compare yourself to what anyone else is doing and have faith that God will be there every step in your journey. Also, always remember to NEVER give up no matter what obstacles come along your way.
